According to the U.S. Small Business Administration small businesses in the United States account for nearly half (46%) of private nonfarm GDP! Likewise, Forbes notes that where a small business is defined as being smaller than 500 employees, there are 28 million small businesses that employ 120 million people or more than 50% of the nation’s workforce. Add to that the fact that a greater percentage of money spent at small businesses stay in the local economy (.68 vs .43 for every dollar) and often help those you know and associate with on a daily basis. It is clear that small businesses play a vital role in the U.S. economy and the livelihood of many millions of people across the nation.

Notwithstanding the importance and prevalence of small businesses, they face some serious and unique challenges. From fierce competition to tight budgets, many small businesses struggle to survive for the long run. There are even movements such as Small Business Saturday that have been started in an effort to help small businesses due to their overall economic importance.

In addition to the fact that we’re a small business ourselves and passionate small business advocates, we work with small businesses every day as they try to promote and brand their businesses through signage. Because of this, we are very excited to announce our “Small Business Success Story” series to try and give back. These interviews will feature real success stories with owners and operators from a wide variety of industries and walks of life. Not only will this help them share their story and grow their business but will help us compile a wealth of knowledge other business owners can draw on. We hope our efforts will indeed make an impact both for those featured and those who read the stories in their quest to continue to survive and follow their dream. We hope you enjoy our interviews and wish you all the best in your efforts as a small business owner.

We’re always on the lookout for small businesses to feature. If you think you have something meaningful to share with other SMBs and have a unique story please drop us a line at smbss@signs.com so we can discuss the opportunity.
