About Our Clear Static Clings

Description

Clear Window Decal Material
Clear Window Decal Material

Repositionable and reusable, clear static window clings are the perfect solution when you want temporary window signs that are transparent and see-through from both sides. They're easy to install; they cling to glass on portions where there is no print. They can be removed and reused multiple times but are not recommended for vehicle use or other exterior applications.

Installation & Care

Installation: Gently peel the backing away from the clings. Start at the top and work your way down, pressing the clings against the window. If bubbles occur, lightly peel them away from the window and reapply.

Care: Our clear static clings can be cleaned by using a damp cloth or paper towel, Gently wipe dirt or residue from them. You can also remove the clings, clean the window and reapply them for increased adhesion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Product Specs

  • What material are your clings made out of?
  • Our custom window clings are made from a clear transparent vinyl. The material itself is a non-adhesive static cling signage option. This means it contains no adhesive glues which allows for easy installation, removal, and reuse. These window clings start completely transparent. Thus, by default, the background of your sign will be clear (as indicated by our grey and white checkered background). If you wish to have a solid colored background you’ll need to change your background color during the design process or simply select our opaque static cling.
  • How do static clings differ from vinyl decals?
  • While both our static clings and window decals are made out of a vinyl material, static clings do not contain any adhesive glues while decals use an adhesive backing to stick to the glass surface. Decals are semi-permanent while clings are removable, repositionable and reusable. Otherwise, both are flexible signage options for retail stores, offices and other settings that have glass surfaces or windows.
  • How do static clings stick?
  • Unlike our vinyl window decals that use an adhesive backing, static window clings do not use an adhesive backing to stick to your windows. Likewise, contrary to popular belief static clings do not stick due to any kind of static electricity. Rather, clings stick due to the vinyl material acting much like a suction cup when placed and pressed onto a smooth, non-porous surface such as glass, metal or plastic. We’ve written a more in-depth article about how static clings work if you need more information.
  • Should I choose a cling or a decal?
  • Static clings are generally better for temporary usages such as sales, events, holiday decorations, seasonal promotions and the like. For this reason they are a fantastic option for retail stores who regularly have sales and other marketing material in an attempt to drive foot traffic into the store. They also are more affordable but less permanent than a window decal. If you want or need something that can be removed and repositioned regularly then static cling is the way to go. If you need a semi-permanent and long lasting solution, then we would recommend a window decal. So while terms like “static cling stickers” and “static cling window decals” may be used, remember that there is a clear distinction between clings and decals in terms of basic functionality.
  • Do you offer only “standard” window cling sizes?
  • There aren’t any industry specific standard sizes for window clings. While there are certain sizes that are probably more common (6”x 9”, 9”x 12”, 12”x 18”, 12”x 24”, 16”x 20”, 18”x 24”, and 24”x 36”) due to the clings being used for store hours, sales, etc. we offer clings in almost any size. Notwithstanding, there is a minimum and maximum dimension allowable for your static cling. Clings can’t be smaller than 6” and no bigger than 400” (which is pretty big).
  • Will my clear cling be visible from a distance?
  • We recommend using a contrasting color to ensure the greatest visibility for your cling. We also typically print white behind the printed portion of your cling to ensure the greatest brilliance and clarity possible. This white print will not be seen and is done free of charge. Beyond a contrasting color and the white ink, when designing your cling take into consideration what surface and where it will be placed, from what distance you need people to see it, and what text you actually need on the sign. Less is more for most signs!
  • When should I choose a clear cling rather than an opaque cling?
  • Clear clings offer the advantage of being see through where not they are not printed. Thus, store fronts or retail locations are perfect places to use clear clings. Advertise your promotion or sale while still allowing your customers to see your product displays and store.
  • Does it cost more money to print in full color?
  • No, it doesn’t cost more money to print in full color because everything we print is in full color. For this reason, there isn’t a discount to print only one or two colors. Instead, the price of your sign will be dictated by the size and the quantity you select. Design whatever you wish without fear of making your sign cost more. You can also contact us and we’ll design what you envision free of charge.

Usage

  • Will my cling stick to the glass surface in any climate?
  • For the most part static clings will work in a wide variety of climates. Despite this we recommend that static clings primarily be used for indoor use. By selecting “Inside Glass” and using clear static clings storefronts are still able to advertise to approaching customers but place it on the inside of the window. Doing so avoids extremely wet, humid or frigid weather which may adversely impact the performance and functionality of the cling.
  • What surfaces will the cling stick to?
  • Static clings will stick to any glass surface. In most cases they will also stick to smooth surfaces such as glass substitutes like acrylic as well as solid plastics. They will not stick well to drywall, wood, etc. The surface they stick to must also be nonporous - this just means it can’t have any pores or crevices that allow water or air in. A solid unpainted surface will allow the static cling to properly stick to the surface. Just make sure before applying your cling that you follow the installation instructions.
  • Can I use my window cling outside? On cars, trucks or other vehicles?
  • Clings are most typically used inside. Although they can be used outdoors, we don’t normally recommend it. If you are going to use them outdoors make sure to follow installation instructions and remove them before any severe weather. Due to their ability to be removed and reapplied quickly and easily using them outdoors can work.

If you want them to display outside but be installed inside, select “Inside Glass” which means that we’ll reverse print your cling. You can then hang your cling on the inside of your storefront or window to be viewed by those outside or approaching your business. This method of printing accomplishes the visibility you want and keeps the cling out of the elements. However, make sure that your window isn’t tinted or the visibility of your cling will be limited.

Similar to a storefront we do not recommend clings to be used on the exterior of any type of vehicle. They are not designed to be placed on cars and will fly off your vehicle if placed on it. We recommend our car decals or magnets for car signage.

  • What about the inside of my car or truck?
  • Yes, you can place them on the inside of your car or truck. If you want it viewed on the inside, do not select “Inside Glass” as an option. Conversely, if you want it viewed on the outside of the car, be sure to check the “Inside Glass” option when ordering. While we would still recommend a vinyl decal for a more permanent option using a clear window cling this way would still allow you to use them inside a vehicle for people to see the sign from the outside.
  • How often can I remove my window cling? Will it leave a residue?
  • Assuming you follow the installation and storage instructions your window clings can be removed and reused as often as you’d like. Removing them from the window should leave behind no sticky adhesive residue due to the fact that they adhere to the window through static electricity.
  • What are clings typically used for?
  • Static window clings are generally used by retail stores, restaurants, spas, salons, grocery stores and more. Typically the signs themselves help promote sales and promotions, entice customers to enter the store, advertise store hours, decorate locations during holiday or seasonal times, and point of purchase advertising. Clings also work great for temporary settings such as tradeshow booths and conference centers.

Installation & Care

  • How do I install my window cling?
  • Your window cling can be installed in much the same way as our window decals. First, ensure that the surface where you will be placing the window cling is both cleaned and allowed time to completely dry. Peel away the cling from the lining, spray the cling and the window with water, then apply the cling and use a squeegee or a credit card to attach the cling to the window and remove the water. Start from the middle of the cling and move outwards.
  • How do I clean my window cling?
  • You can clean your cling by using a soapy water and a damp cloth or sponge. Gently wipe the back of your cling to remove any dirt or grime build up. Then use clean water and a damp cloth or sponge to wipe away any excess soap. Doing so regularly will help lengthen the lifespan of your cling.
  • How do I store my window cling?
  • If you plan on storing your cling for future use you need to keep the lining that it originally comes on. You can use this lining to carefully put the cling back on and store in a cool and dry room with a sheet of paper or wax paper on both sides.

If you don’t have the lining, simply store them flat between sheets of wax paper.

Do not roll or fold your clings. Removing creases and curls is difficult.

  • My static cling doesn’t cling anymore. How do I revitalize it?
  • You can refresh your static cling by cleaning it with soapy water and then rinsing with clean water. You may be able to increase the static cling by rubbing it against a wool or fleece blanket as well. When reinstalling, make sure to spray the window and the cling with water. Then use a squeegee to apply the cling to the window.
