What Are Brushed Aluminum Signs?

Brushed aluminum signs, the ultimate in durability and aesthetics, are made by printing any image, graphic, or design directly onto a 3mm brushed aluminum e-panel material. This material has a brushed face and is composed of two sheets of aluminum with a reinforced polyethylene core. This makeup allows for maximum durability while providing the appearance of stainless steel at a fraction of the price.

Designed for both internal and external use, brushed aluminum signs are commonly used to display business names, logos, suite numbers, titles, and general information. They are great for lobby and receptionist areas, stores, waiting rooms, internal offices, hallways, bathrooms, and more. Brushed aluminum signs are also popular as restroom, exit, handicap, and maximum occupancy signs. Templates for these types of signs and more are available in the popular templates section below.

Installation
The most common method of mounting our brushed aluminum signs is to a rigid surface using standoffs. After measuring and marking the location where the sign will be hung you can use the standoffs package (must be ordered as an option) to mount your metal sign. Note, for some rigid surfaces a pilot hole may be needed before continuing installation of your sign. Simply put your anchor inside of the standoff tube and then drill the screw and tube into the wall through the drilled holes on the sign itself. The final step is to screw on the caps of the standoffs by hand. To install your sign this way you’ll need a measuring tape, a level, and drill. We also recommend selecting the “Drilled Holes” option unless you plan to drill your own holes in the sign. Other methods of installation include 3M command strips, adhesive velcro, double sided tape, or washers and screws.

Care
The best way to take care of your custom brushed aluminum sign is to post it in a place that will avoid scratches that are either intentional or accidental. Beyond this, regularly clean the sign using a damp non-abrasive cloth. This will ensure that it remains vibrant for years to come. If storage is necessary, store the your sign at room temperature in a dry location. Your brushed metal sign should also be covered with a non-abrasive material to avoid being scratched while stored. If your brushed aluminum sign has the protective laminate, we recommend using a clean cloth and a citrus-based cleaner or cleaning mix of 70% isopropyl alcohol and 30% water.

Q:
Can a photograph be on my sign
Asked 10 months ago by daufuskiecommunityfarm@gmail.com
A:

Yes, a photograph can be printed or displayed on brushed aluminum signs. We print your design on the finest aluminum materials using world-class large-format commercial printers. We use an eco-friendly, four-color print method with weather-, fade-, and abrasion-resistant UV ink that results in vibrant, hard-to-miss signs.

Q:
I only have a picture but no file of what I want
Asked a year ago by marc@johncelli.com
A:

We need a soft copy file of what you want us to print. Unfortunately, a picture won't work. It needs to be a print-ready file.

Q:
my sign lettering is all black. what should i choose for the white ink selection to ensure it is what i am looking for?
Asked a year ago by Lou
A:

If you have black text on your design, you may choose from the following white ink settings depending on the outcome you woule like to have.

  • Brushed Metallic - No white ink will be added. Printed colors will be translucent creating a brushed metallic look.
  • Brushed Metallic + White - The background in the file will be removed to show the brushed material. All other white areas will print white. Printed colors will be translucent, creating a colored metallic look.
  • Brushed Background - The background in the file will be removed to show the brushed material. All other white areas will print white. Printed colors will have a white ink layer underneath to make them vibrant and opaque.
Q:
I’m confused about the “white ink: brushed background” choices. Could you explain each category ? I have NO white on my sign - and I want it to look exactly like I have designed it - I’m not sure which option to choose
Asked a year ago by Heidi W.
A:

The brushed aluminum finish is a very common metal finishing system. What it does is deliver a sandblasted or brushed appearance to any aluminum-based object. In order to bring this brushed aluminum finish, manufacturers are abrading the surface mechanically, by using an abrasive brush. White ink is added to make sure that your artwork will not be printed transparent. Otherwise, colors wll be printed but the material will show giving it a different finishing.

Brushed Metallic + White: A popular method of metal finishing is the brushed aluminum finish. It gives any product made of aluminum a sandblasted or brushed appearance. Manufacturers mechanically abrade the surface with an abrasive brush to get this brushed aluminum finish.

Metallic Brushed: White ink won't be added. Translucent printed colors will give products a brushed metallic appearance.

Brushed backdrop: To reveal the brushed material, the file's backdrop will be removed. The rest of the page will print in white. White ink will be used as a base for printed colors to make them bright and opaque.

Remove White: To reveal the brushed background, all white regions in the file will be deleted. White ink will be printed on top of the other colors to make them vivid and opaque.

File will print exactly as it appears on the screen or canvas. White will print in all of its forms. White ink will be used as a base for printed colors to make them bright and opaque.

Follow File Settings: As specified, the file's white layers will be used. *A layered file is needed.

Q:
What colors show up best on brushed aluminum? My preferred colors would be either deep green or burgundy but clarity/visibility is more important than any specific color since this is a warning sign rather than a company logo.
Asked a year ago by Ruth
A:

Deep green or burgundy can be used, but they may not provide as much contrast as some other colors. Ensure that the shade you choose stands out clearly against the brushed aluminum background.

Consider using reflective materials or coatings for the text and graphics on the sign. Reflective elements can significantly enhance visibility, especially in low-light conditions. Reflective Aluminum Signs

Q:
What are brushed aluminum signs made of?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

Our brushed aluminum signs are made with e-panels – two thin aluminum sheets with a reinforced plastic core in between. The plastic core is polyethylene, a durable hard plastic that adds to the sign's longevity. The top sheet of aluminum is manufactured with a clean brushed finish.

Q:
How does brushed aluminum differ from standard aluminum?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

One of the major differences between the two, apart from the finish, is the thickness of the sign. Brushed aluminum is 3 mm thick while the standard aluminum signs are 2 mm thick. Another is the appearance of the color white on the printed sign. We typically do not print white ink on our brushed aluminum unless it’s part of the design. We use spot white ink to avoid muting the brushed metallic appearance of the sign.

Q:
How will the color white appear if it is part of my design?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

White ink on brushed aluminum differs from our standard aluminum signs. White ink is typically only used as a spot ink behind white text or essential white in graphics. This way, white portions of your sign that aren’t text will simply blend in with the brushed finish.

Q:
Do you offer other thickness options for brushed aluminum signs?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

Our brushed aluminum signs are of the standard 3 mm (1/8") thickness, which is the equivalent of approximately 11-gauge steel.

Q:
Are the brushed aluminum signs reflective in nature? Do you offer reflective signs?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

Although neither our regular aluminum signs nor brushed signs are reflective in nature, we do have Custom Reflective Aluminum Signs which are visible both day and night, and are typically used for road, safety, real estate signage, and more.
