Alex is working with his client, the Village of Waterloo, New York, to help revitalize it and \u201cbring some vibrancy\u201d to the downtown area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his role as project manager, Alex has purchased various <a href=\"https:\/\/www.signs.com\/clear-window-clings\/\">window clings<\/a> from Signs.com, for window installations, multimedia presentations, and more. The result, he says, has been the ability to further interest in Waterloo and its wineries, breweries, restaurants, and other establishments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tell us about yourself:<br><\/strong>Born and raised in New York City, I&#8217;m passionate about design, technology, and business. The town \u2013 the birthplace of Memorial Day \u2013 has beautiful historic buildings that are in need of a makeover. We\u2019ve been hanging art and graphics in windows as we work on the buildings, to bring some vibrancy to the downtown area during the construction\/rehabilitation phase. For instance, we recently printed some great art to honor Veteran&#8217;s Day \u2013 we filled about eight storefronts with these (combined with some hand-painted borders), creating a buzz on social media and in-person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Where did the idea of your company come from?<br><\/strong>A research analysis undertaken for downtown Waterloo revealed the importance of art, and we got the idea from the consulting companies who have assisted us: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.camoinassociates.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Camoin Associates<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insitearch.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in.site:architecture<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/mrbgroup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MRB Group<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is one thing most people don&#8217;t know about you?<br><\/strong>I love to buy and sell old comic books on eBay. The Finger Lakes is home to many wineries as well as craft breweries, so there\u2019s always something new to try.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How do you \u201cwow\u201d your customers?<br><\/strong>Waterloo\u2019s historic downtown is centered on State Route 5\/20 (Main St.) and Route 96. Every day, 10,000 cars drive by one way and 15,000 the other way. To honor Veteran\u2019s Day, we worked with local painter Brent White on a recent art opening, and printed some signage on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.signs.com\/\">Signs.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How do you compete with competitors that are bigger than you?<br><\/strong>The buildings in town still need a lot of love, but we&#8217;re working on making it happen. Plus, once a year we have a big Memorial Day parade, which attracts a ton of people!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Creating Positive Energy<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What\u2019s one of the biggest challenges you have had with your business \u2013 how did you overcome it?<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong>One of our biggest challenges is keeping everyone happy. The original artwork appeared in tandem with clear window clings from Signs.com throughout multiple downtown buildings.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you were to start again, what would you do differently?<br><\/strong>We would have printed and installed a sign with a \u201cfollow us on Instagram\u201d message on the front of the buildings right away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is the one thing you <em>would<\/em> do over and over, and recommend everyone else do as well?<br><\/strong>It\u2019s crucial to actively engage the community on social media. Something as simple as snapping a picture of the lunch you had at a great local business will create positive energy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Is there a book that you recommend our community should read?<br><\/strong>I strongly recommend <em>Vanishing New York: How a Great City Lost Its Soul,<\/em> by Jeremiah Moss. As a native New Yorker, I\u2019ve witnessed Manhattan lose many of the businesses that once made it unique.
